Brief Profile

Dr.-Ing. C. V. S. Kiran has made significant contributions to the fields of metallurgy and materials engineering, with a focus on both academic and industrial advancements. He began his academic journey with a degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology, JNTUH, followed by advanced studies at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Germany. His Ph.D. research on nanocomposites and their irradiation set a solid foundation for his future work, earning him recognition, including the DAAD award in 2008.

At the Helmholtz Institute Ulm, KIT, Dr. Kiran contributed to research supported by the Hermholtz Society and the German Science Foundation, focusing on advanced transmission electron microscopy. He also developed a course on in situ electron microscopy at the Technical University of Darmstadt, connecting theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

During his tenure at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO, Dr. Kiran's work in materials characterization contributed to the development of launch vehicle materials. His efforts were recognized by the Electron Microscopy Society of India with the Excellence in Microscopy Award in 2020. His role at Skyroot Aerospace, as Vice-President for Materials and Strategic Initiatives, included contributions to the Materials and Additive Manufacturing. Besides, he was also actively involved in the launch of India's first private rocket on November 18, 2022, marking a significant moment in the country's private space exploration efforts.

Dr. Kiran has been involved in advancing metal additive manufacturing for aerospace components, helping to reduce lead times, lower costs and enhance the reliability and functionality of launch vehicles through industry-specific innovations.

With over 100 peer-reviewed articles, a patent and an h-index of 39, Dr. Kiran's contributions have been recognized by the broader scientific community. He has been honored as a Fellow of the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences in 2017 and the Telangana Academy of Sciences in 2022, acknowledging his influence in both scientific and engineering fields.

Dr. Kiran is also an Adjunct Professor at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology and Anurag University towards nurturing the future generations.

Dr. Kiran remains committed to advancing the intersection of academic research and practical industrial applications, particularly in aerospace and continues to work on innovations that drive the interdisciplinary engineering fields forward.
