Before my National Space Day talk and panel discussion at SDSC SHAR, I had the pleasure of touring the facilities—a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends and former colleagues. It was inspiring to witness the ongoing modifications at the Second Launch Pad, especially as they prepare for the ambitious Gaganyaan Programme.

The tour also offered a close look at the Jet Deflection System and the Water Deluge System at the launch pad—critical components designed to safely manage the intense forces and heat generated during launches.

The ongoing refurbishment activities at the site, particularly at the Second Launch Pad of Sriharikota, are crucial as they ensure that the infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards. These activities, while time-consuming, are essential for the success of future missions, ensuring that each launch proceeds smoothly and safely.

During the tour, I also had the chance to observe the development of the emergency escape system for astronauts, a vital safety measure for future crewed missions. Notably, a buggy is being created at the upper stage levels, designed to swiftly transport astronauts to a safer distance in case of an emergency—something akin to a ropeway system. This innovative solution was clearly visible and is a testament to the meticulous planning and commitment to safety that underpins all activities at the Second Launch Pad.

The tour was made even more enjoyable with the company of friends from SATSURE and Rocketeers, who joined me in exploring the cutting-edge advancements being made.

As always, visiting the Mission Control Center (MCC) was a highlight. MCC is the nerve center of any space mission, serving as the hub for real-time monitoring, decision-making and coordination. This MCC plays a particularly critical role in ensuring the success of India's space missions and is where every aspect of a launch is meticulously managed. From the countdown to liftoff and through to the deployment of payloads, the MCC orchestrates each step with precision, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally. I remembered the time where we had the historic first private launch, i.e., Vikram-S, on 18th Nov 2022. The importance of the Mission Control Center cannot be overstated, as it is the place where critical decisions are made, often in real-time, to safeguard the mission and achieve the desired outcomes.

Finally coming to the podium where the launch is declared success.... watching the videos of every launch, the podium is an important place...

From the outside, the MCC resembles a futuristic spaceship, with its sleek, aerodynamic design and state-of-the-art architecture.

The building's exterior is visually striking, with smooth curves and a streamlined structure within greenery, that evoke the essence of cutting-edge space technology. Spaceship-like scenery stands as a powerful reminder of the India's commitment to reaching new heights in space exploration.

Everyone enjoys it and always....

Revisiting the MOTR (Multi-Object Tracking Radar) was a special treat. Capable of simultaneously tracking multiple objects in space, the MOTR is instrumental in monitoring space debris, tracking satellites, and supporting complex missions.

Its advanced radar system can detect and follow objects as small as 10 cm in size at a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers, if i am not mistaken, making it one of the most sophisticated tracking systems in the world. The MOTR not only ensures the safety and success of launches but also plays a crucial role in protecting assets in orbit.

Meeting old friends and former colleagues also happened at MOTR. This time around, the pictures captured by the official photographer were mesmerizing, truly reflecting the excitement and progress happening at SDSC SHAR. It's always a privilege to witness firsthand the strides being made in India’s space exploration efforts, and I am thrilled to share these moments with you all. It is important always to the thank the organisers, especially to Mr, Sreedhar, Mr. Manohar, Mr. Bharatwaj and the entire team for the beautiful memory.
