Remembering Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha on his birth anniversary: A Visionary of India’s lighter-than-air Sovereignty 🇮🇳

Born on 30 October 1909, Dr. Bhabha viewed ballooning not just as science, but as a national capability that too in 1940’s, to explore the upper atmosphere and near-space - the foundation of India’s stratospheric basement.
Bhabha intuitively grasped the dual-use value of balloon systems:
For science: probing cosmic rays, X-rays, and atmospheric physics.
For national capability: developing materials, gas systems, and high-altitude engineering know-how. These were precursors to both rocketry and modern LTA technology.
Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha (1909-1966) was the
Visionary of India’s Scientific Sovereignty. His birth anniversary is often observed by India’s scientific community as a day of reflection on scientific self-reliance.
