I recently had the privilege of participating in a thought-provoking panel discussion titled "Redefining the Final Frontier: Enhancing Space Capabilities" as part of AeroDef Tech Summit 2024 at Bengaluru, India on the 1st August 2024. The session was moderated by Dr. Vinod S. Chippalkatti, President of Strategic Electronics Business Unit (SEBU) at Centum Electronics Limited. Joining me on the panel was Ms. Sumi Saikia, Partner at Trilegal and together we delved into the evolving landscape of space capabilities.

During the discussion, I specifically addressed the theme of "Charting a Bold Future," where I offered policy recommendations essential for fostering a flourishing space ecosystem. I emphasized the necessity for regular updates to our space policies, given the rapid and constant evolution of the space industry. The development and continuous refinement of comprehensive and forward-looking space policies are crucial for boosting the space ecosystem and ensuring long-term sustainability.

I also shed light on the challenges that may arise in the process of policy development and updating. These challenges range from technological advancements and international collaboration to regulatory hurdles and the need for flexible frameworks that can adapt to future changes. However, I also offered potential solutions, stressing the importance of proactive engagement with stakeholders, fostering innovation and maintaining a forward-thinking approach.

Our discussion also lauded the Indian Space Policy and the accompanying Norms, Guidelines and Procedures for Implementation, recognizing them as vital frameworks that will propel India's space ambitions forward. We agreed that these policies must be continuously evaluated and refined to keep pace with the dynamic nature of space exploration.

The exchange of ideas and insights during the panel was both enriching and inspiring. It reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between industry leaders, policymakers and legal experts to ensure that India remains at the forefront of space innovation. As we explored the future of space exploration, it became clear that enhancing our capabilities is not just about technology but also about creating and updating robust policies and partnerships that will shape the future of space for generations to come.
